ANCIENT ATHEISM

ANCIENT ATHEISM:-
As glorious symbol of ancient rationalism,Charvaka ,taught atheism in ancient India. He was bold enough to teach clearly that soul, god, heaven and release are the false notions and that rituals such as sacrifices were designed by the priests looking for selfish gain to mislead gullible followers. He exposed the loopholes in the ways of rituals by questioning,"pashochnihata swargam jyotishtomay gamishyte....[if the sacrificial beast goes to heaven, why the sacrificer should not sacrifice his own father as the sacrificial animal and reserve his place in heaven]." mratanam api jantonam shradham.....[if the food morsels offered on funeral days reached the ancestors, why not feed here at home those living who are far away traveling].[Chrvak darshan page 4]. He further questioned the concepts of soul, rebirth, afterbirth and other regressive concepts. He said that just as heat is the nature of the fire and cold is the nature of water, consciousness is the nature of the body. After the body perishes and becomes ashes, there is no soul migrating from it.So Charvaka concluded as long as man is alive,he should conform to society's moral laws and enjoy happiness. Poor Scientific Pedagogy And Diluted Scientific Temper

Poor Scientific Pedagogy And Diluted Scientific Temper.
by Hirday Nath
Some days back there was a media report about intellectual and academic propriety of Indian universities. That not a single Indian institute of higher learning figures in top 100 ranking of world universities is a poor comment on the quality of education and research in the country.
An even greater tragedy is that majority segment of Indian students today consider the academic credentials only as academic streams to high paying corporate careers. The ground situation is not different for non corporate careers.Exclusive focus on producing degree holders and lack of meritocracy kills scientific innovation and research. Not surprisingly Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan has sarcastically described recently held Indian science Congress as circus where very little science was discussed.
It is generally believed that academic excellence leads to all round intellectual development, essential for research based innovation, but ironically enough, the ground situation is horribly different. India today is teeming with millions of men and women who are beneficiaries modern science and technology but paradoxically majority segment lacks scientific temper in their respective practice and perception. The scientific correctness of these men and women is just opposed to scientific temper or critical thinking which subjects metaphysical assumptions of inherited traditions to a scientific scrutiny.
BJP Government is encouraging trend to treat all scientific innovation as if they are simply a restatement of much publicized 'ancient scientific wisdom'. Without any worthwhile contribution of their own,it is order of the day to connect all scientific development to 'eternal' Hindu tradition and claim it to be a product of their own native genius since the beginning of time.
Vice President Hamid Ansari has quite rightly highlighted the dearth of scientific temper in the country. He has further observed that intolerance towards attempts to separate belief from scientifically verified facts leads to the occult being dubbed as scientific.

MHABHARTA :EPIC TALE OF "EXTRAORDINARY "FANTASIES !
PHILANTHROPIC KING "PAR EXCELLENT"!
King Gya son of king Amortry, organized daily agnihotra [the ceremony consisting of offering oblations to the consecrated fire] for hundred years. During this period,he donated daily ,one Lac sixty thousand Cow,ten thousand Horse and one Lac gold coins.
[Mhabharta;Dronparv;chapter 66;shalok[verse] 1/7/8/9/].
Exposition:-total no of Cows donated during 100 years :160000x
365x100=5,84,00,00,000.
total no of Horses donated :10000x365x100=36,50,00,000.
total no of Gold coins donated:100000x365x100=3,65,00,00,000.
Now,let us believe that being extraordinarily devotional philanthropic,King Gya worked for his mission all the 24 hours [1440 minutes],without any other work, rest or sleep, still how could he manage donation of aforementioned Cows,Horses and Gold coins-that too associated with time consuming rituals???
Any divine exposition, clue or calculation???sisting of offering oblations to the consecrated fire] for hundred years. During this period,he donated daily ,one Lac sixty thousand Cow,ten thousand Horse and one Lac gold coins.

HOW MAN ESTABLISHED 'GOD' IN HIS OWN IMAGINATION ?

HOW MAN ESTABLISHED 'GOD' IN HIS OWN IMAGINATION ?
"Man is, and always has been, a maker of gods. It has been the most serious and significant occupation of his sojourn in the world."
(John Burroughs / 1837-1921 / American essayist).
"...Jesus was not considered the son of 'god' during his life time. Many years after the death of Jesus ,his stories were written in the Bible. The authors glorified him through poetic exaggeration.Once the magical stories of Jesus were documented in the Bible, the readers considered them as true happenings.Later generations had no way to disapprove these stories. Thus,Jesus was designated as the son of 'god' only after his magical acts were documented in the Bible.
Similarly, the Buddha was not identified as a 'god' in his life time by his disciples or any of the Hindu priests. He was recognized as a great teacher. He himself denied the existence of 'gods'.He never recognized any Hindu 'gods' such as Vishnu,Shiva or Shakti.Neither had he exhibited any magic in his large teaching spell of almost half a century. Five hundred years after his death, the Hindu religious books introduced him as an incarnation of 'god' Vishnu.Besides many Buddhist books also portrayed him as 'god'.These books wrote many magical stories about him.Only then people stated to worship his idol.It is obvious that the people followed the books.
Let's consider another classical example of one of the Hindu 'gods'.Poet Valmiki wrote the Ramayana and portrayed its hero as a great king and human being.Even after the Ramayana,Hindus did not recognize Ram as a 'god' for a long period, since Valimiki did not glorify Ram as a 'god'.After 2000 years,Tulsidas wrote the story again. He glorified the hero Ram as an incarnation of 'god' Vishnu. The new story was written only 400 years ago, after Hindus began recognizing Ram as 'god'.After the new story, people began to worship Ram,Sita and Hanuman. It is evident from the fact that history rarely mention worship of Ram before Tulsidas.Besides, almost all the temples of Ram were built after the new story was written.
The stories of the Bible, the Purana's and other religious books were written almost 2000 years ago.The problem is that people consider these to be legitimate history as there was no alternative.."
